Johan finished his BA and BA Hons at the University of Pretoria and his Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of North West. He completed his internship at Bophelong Psychiatric Hospital, IPELEGENG Child and Family Center and a private practice in Middelburg where after he started his own practice. He has been in private practice for 17 years. 

The focus in therapy is a mix of therapeutic methods with the goal of addressing the identified issue or problem to resolve it as far as possible.  In the practice him and his wife has a big scope of expertise and has had exposure to many different settings, challenges and therapeutic challenges.  

Being the holder of a Commercial Pilots License and a Flight Instructors on fixed wing aircraft, Johan also has a keen interest in Aviation Psychology and Human Factors in aviation.  He is an associate member of the European Association of Aviation Psychology (EAAP), member of Aero-Medical International (AMI) and served on the Aviation Medical Committee of the South African Civil Aviation Authority for two terms. He loves the outdoors and various sporting activities.

Karlien started and completed her studies at the University of Pretoria and has been running her own practice for 17 years.  She completed her BA, BA Hons and Masters degree with specialization in Counselling Psychology and did her internship at Stabilis Clinic.  Her dissertation was completed in a record time.

Karlien started her practice first in the city. Johan joined her, practicing from the same rooms. Later they moved their offices to Hatfield where they practiced for a number of years before moving the practice to nearby Lynnrodene at the end of 2014. They are ideally located as both Johan and Karlien have a keen interest in Medical- or Health Psychology and consult in various hospitals.

Through her involvement in the medical and health psychology field, as well as long involvement in Neuro- and Spinal rehabilitation, she has a good understanding of the dynamics of such conditions and works with an array of healthcare professionals to treat the effects of amongst others Stroke, Epilepsy, Mild traumatic brain injury.

She often receives referrals when no apparent medical reason can be found for these and other conditions and she enjoys the challenges of these positive outcomes. Her work within the health psychology field is however not limited to neurological conditions.


Apart from painting and her creative handwork hobbies, Karlien passed a grade 8 UNISA examination in piano and also obtained a Performance Certificate from Trinity College. From here her keen interest in the effect of music and creativity on the psyche and how this can be utilized in the process of therapy.

Kalrien is busy with her PhD through the University of Pretoria, with a focus on family dynamics of newly diagnosed adolescents with Epilepsy.

Ilze joined the dynamic team of psychologists at Erasmustherapy in 2014.  Currently Ilze works as educator and school psychologist at Pretoria School for Cerebral Palsied learners.  Beyond school hours she works as Educational Psychologist at Erasmustherapy.

Ilze completed her B.A. (Tourism, Recreation and Psychology) as well as Higher Education Diploma (HED) at PU for CHE (currently known as North West University) in 2001.  She furthermore completed B.Ed and M.Ed. (Educational Psychology) degrees at the University of Johannesburg.  Her internship was conducted at Sparrow Foundation School, a special school with learners presenting challenges that include medical, physical, social and other learning problems.

Ilze has performed as educator at secondary and tertiary level at various private and government institutions and is an expert presenter representing UJ at a PSYSSA conference as early as 2008.  Ilze has received extensive training in the Educational Psychology field and specialises in performing the following services during her psychological therapy sessions:

  • Eye Movement Integration Therapy (EMI) – a neuropsychological therapy for trauma.
  • Integrated Learning Therapy (ILT) – a neurodevelopmental therapy approach that assists in disorders such as ADHD, Autism and Learning Disorders.

Ilze is happily married and the mother of 3 beautiful children.  She has a passion for music and has received numerous awards in singing and performing in musical theatre.  She enjoys cooking and sports.  Ilze treasures her time with family and friends.
Joanien joined Erasmustherapy in May 2015 and is responsible for the day to day operational and administrative management of the practice on behalf of the Partners.

After matriculating, Joanien took a gap year before commencing with her full time studies. She spent four months in Australia and then returned to South Africa for the remainder of the year. She worked at the Upendi Youth & Adventure Centre that specializes in leadership programs and adventure camps for schools and churches as well as informal team buildings for companies.

After her gap year she obtained a three year degree in Tourism Management at the University of Pretoria whilst working as an Aupair. She has previous experience of working in the healthcare sector, as she worked as a debtors clerk and administrative professional prior to joining Erasmustherapy.

In her free time, Joanien enjoys spending time with her family and travelling. Her dependability, loyalty and friendly spirit make her a valued member of the Erasmustherapy team!
Amorie joined the team at the beginning of 2017.  She completed her BA (Psychology & Criminology), BA Hons and Masters in Counselling Psychology  with special focus on sport psychology at the University of Pretoria. Amorie is always up for a challenge and to widen her scope she completed her Internship at Stabillis Treatment Center.  Stabillis Treatment Center is a substance rehabilitation center that focuses on in-patient treatment for patients with dependency on alcohol, drugs and medication abuse. 

Amorie enjoys working with a multidisciplinary team and therefore divides her time between private practice and in-patient hospital work. She currently works at various hospitals assisting patients with trauma.  Furthermore, Amorie believes in sharing knowledge, and therefore accepted a position at the University of Pretoria as guest lecturer in Psychology.

Amorie has received extensive training in Counselling Psychology and has shown an interest in the following areas of therapy:

Amorie has a passion for sport.  She represented South Africa at World Championships level and is still a keen participant.  She is happily married  and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
