Johan finished his BA and BA Hons at the University of Pretoria and his Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of North West. He completed his internship at Bophelong Psychiatric Hospital, IPELEGENG Child and Family Center and a private practice in Middelburg where after he started his own practice. He has been in private practice for 17 years.
The focus in therapy is a mix of therapeutic methods with the goal of addressing the identified issue or problem to resolve it as far as possible. In the practice him and his wife has a big scope of expertise and has had exposure to many different settings, challenges and therapeutic challenges.
Being the holder of a Commercial Pilots License and a Flight Instructors on fixed wing aircraft, Johan also has a keen interest in Aviation Psychology and Human Factors in aviation. He is an associate member of the European Association of Aviation Psychology (EAAP), member of Aero-Medical International (AMI) and served on the Aviation Medical Committee of the South African Civil Aviation Authority for two terms. He loves the outdoors and various sporting activities.
Karlien started and completed her studies at the University of Pretoria and has been running her own practice for 17 years. She completed her BA, BA Hons and Masters degree with specialization in Counselling Psychology and did her internship at Stabilis Clinic. Her dissertation was completed in a record time.
Karlien started her practice first in the city. Johan joined her, practicing from the same rooms. Later they moved their offices to Hatfield where they practiced for a number of years before moving the practice to nearby Lynnrodene at the end of 2014. They are ideally located as both Johan and Karlien have a keen interest in Medical- or Health Psychology and consult in various hospitals.
Through her involvement in the medical and health psychology field, as well as long involvement in Neuro- and Spinal rehabilitation, she has a good understanding of the dynamics of such conditions and works with an array of healthcare professionals to treat the effects of amongst others Stroke, Epilepsy, Mild traumatic brain injury.
She often receives referrals when no apparent medical reason can be found for these and other conditions and she enjoys the challenges of these positive outcomes. Her work within the health psychology field is however not limited to neurological conditions.
Apart from painting and her creative handwork hobbies, Karlien passed a grade 8 UNISA examination in piano and also obtained a Performance Certificate from Trinity College. From here her keen interest in the effect of music and creativity on the psyche and how this can be utilized in the process of therapy.
Kalrien is busy with her PhD through the University of Pretoria, with a focus on family dynamics of newly diagnosed adolescents with Epilepsy.
